Services

Context is a New Zealand architecture and design practice with over 21 years of experience delivering thoughtful, enduring outcomes across a wide range of sectors and project types.

Our work is supported by four core disciplines - urban design and masterplanning, architecture, interior design, and landscape design - covering every phase of a project from early concept and planning through to completion.

Five specialist services complement our core offering: stakeholder engagement, sustainability consulting, digital services, retrofit and remediation, and minor works. Together, these capabilities mean our clients benefit from expert, joined-up thinking across every aspect of their project - with studios in Auckland, Tauranga, and Christchurch to support delivery nationwide.

Urban Design & Masterplanning

Our urban design team collaborates with clients to achieve master planning, landscape architecture, and architectural solutions to create successful, sustainable places that offer long-term community value.

Architecture

Our architecture services begin with a detailed return brief ensuring we understand our clients context at the deepest level, and conclude by proactively seeking feedback at the close of each project, to inform our ongoing focus on delivering best outcomes for our clients.

Interior Design

Our interiors team create spaces that embody our clients’ values, with highly attractive, functional workplaces, engaging, vibrant hospitality and retail spaces and contemporary but homely residential and aged care environments.

Landscape Design

Landscape design goes beyond creating visually appealing spaces; it’s about crafting integrated environments that embody the unique characteristics of each site and align seamlessly with project objectives.

Wayfinding & Branding

Branding and wayfinding are integral components of architectural design, shaping how people experience and navigate spaces. From commercial buildings and airports to healthcare facilities and cultural institutions, well-executed branding and wayfinding enhances user experience, reinforces identity, and contributes to a seamless journey.

Stakeholder Engagement

Our stakeholder engagement process is grounded in respect, collaboration, and genuine participation. Our Kaupapa Māori approach is an integral part of our standard engagement and design process, ensuring cultural considerations are embedded from the outset. We recognise the importance of building authentic relationships with iwi and community groups, and wherever possible, we explore opportunities for partnership.

Sustainability

We believe in providing clients with informed choices about the best ways to create buildings and places that perform well. Our aim is to design buildings and environments that we can be proud of in the context of their locations, stand the test of time and nurture vibrant living that contribute to regenerating our world — socially, economically, and ecologically.

Digital

We have invested heavily in digital tools, cutting-edge technology, and our team to enhance the quality and speed at which we design, manage, and deliver. Digital services are integrated throughout the business, from 3D printing and drone site footage to virtual reality (VR) and digital walkthroughs, enabling stakeholders to experience a space virtually before any alterations are made to the physical site.

Retrofit & Remediation

Our team has a history of working on remediation and retrofit projects across New Zealand. These projects involve schools, residential, commercial, mixed-use, and high-rise buildings. We have developed technical expertise in all scales of remediation projects.

Minor Works

We have a long history of innovation in delivery and commercial solutions for minor works, pre and post lease, retrofit and remediation services. This information is relevant to commercial building owners and their leasing agents, potential commercial and industrial tenants, body corporates and body corporate managers, and property/facilities managers.
