Introducing our remediation team

Context’s team has a history of working on remediation projects across New Zealand. Projects include schools, residential, commercial, mixed-use, and high-rise buildings.

We specialise in large-scale commercial remediation projects. Each project’s design solution is tailored to the specific issues of each building, stakeholder requirements, budgets and most importantly, those using the premises.

We have an experienced team with strong design, commercial, and technical skills — not to mention the people skills that make all the difference on challenging projects.

If you have an issue with your building, get in touch and we’ll talk to you about undertaking an initial assessment. We can then provide sound recommendations on whether remediation or retrofit is the long-term solution you need.
PROJECT SPONSOR

Craig Birch

Principal
Registered Architect, BArch, Dip Landscape Architecture

Craig has worked at Context for seven years and leads the practice’s aged care, remediation, and sustainability teams. He understands buildings from the ground up and the outside in; his earlier career included stints as a building surveyor and landscape designer. His sector experience extends from Ministry of Education contracts to aged care, hospitality, and commercial buildings.

Craig is passionate about the environment and has served on the Environmental Issues Group for the New Zealand Institute of Architects and is an accredited practitioner for the New Zealand Green Building Council. He believes in walking the sustainability talk, so he used Passive House principles – an approach that creates ultra-low energy homes – to design and build his own house.

PROJECT ARCHITECT

Melodi Barzandeh

Senior Registered Architect
Master of Architecture (Professional)

Melodi is a Registered Architect with over twelve years of professional experience practising architecture in New Zealand. She has delivered everything from small-scale fit-outs to the design and delivery of multi-unit residential dwellings, Ministry of Education buildings and commercial projects. Melodi works across various sectors at Context, including aged care, retail design, airport and residential. A mentor to many, she has invaluable knowledge of the design and delivery of projects and is a champion of Safety in Design.

She has years of experience in designing and resolving weathertightness issues in the commercial, educational, and multiunit residential sectors. This type of remedial work has helped her to understand and avoid problematic design outcomes within the construction industry.

LEAD TECHNICIAN

Ke Zhou

Senior Architectural Technician
PGDip Arch, BBSc

Ke has a high technical knowledge of a range of techniques and solutions including architectural drafting, detailing, building code and documentation. He has a strong building science background and knowledge and is a highly experienced architectural designer with a keen interest in sustainability.

He has worked across various projects – from multi-unit complexes to schools and high-rise commercial buildings across the North and South Islands. His extensive technical knowledge and skillset are coupled with a keen eye for design and detailing. He ensures weathertight design and full compliance, while also considering the full context and aesthetics of the building.

Ke is an analytic problem solver and a human encyclopaedia when it comes to the New Zealand Building Code, health and safety and other standards. He’s an asset to our remediation team and any project he’s across.
