Brief
When the owner of New World Ohakune was planning store renovations, their contractors โ Foster Construction โ approached us to undertake consented work. We suggested utilising our in-house digital team to scan the site and create a range of digital outputs for our architects to use during the design process.
A different supermarket scanner
We sent two of our digital specialists to Ohakune to capture the New World store using a ground-based LiDAR (point cloud) scanner. Traditional measuring methods would have taken two days to complete, however, our team scanned the whole site in only three hours.
Once the data capture was done, we produced a 3D point cloud model for integration with ArchiCAD. This allowed our architects to have accurate specifications with the ability to build up the design from a technical aspect. We also created a 3D mesh model – this high-quality virtual model can be manipulated and moved within space, allowing for testing placements and visual understanding.
The New World store owner now has a digital twin of the outlet that can be used for future renovations, spatial reconfigurations, health & safety, and maintenance planning. We also provided accurate as-built drawings for future reference. For convenience and efficiency, these digital assets can be accessed from any device 24/7 by all stakeholders via a secure portal.
