Waikanae is a suburban town on the Kapiti Coast, 60 kilometres north of Wellington’s CBD. The name means ‘waters (wai) of the grey mullet’. Within this region, Ngārara is an area that has been identified for urban expansion and intensification.
Context worked closely with the client and mana whenua on this complex and sensitive site, consulting with stakeholders about the site’s challenges and constraints.
The master planning and urban design for the proposed new aged care community reflects the client’s core vision and values while maintaining and respecting Ngārara ideologies and beliefs.
The proposed masterplan features independent living units (villas), a care centre, apartments, a clubhouse for residents, and a living-well centre.
