Brief
We tasked ourselves with redesigning and fitting out an industrial space to create a wonderful base for our Christchurch design practice.
Let there be light
Housed inside a converted 1960s rubber factory, we brought our Christchurch studio to life as an airy space, overflowing with creative possibilities. We used virtuality-reality (VR) walkthroughs to get a feel for the space before committing to real-world works and to help our non-architect team members visualise the space and contribute to the design.
A key internal client spotted that the cabinetsโ location needed to be adjusted to allow better access โ a prime example of how VR brings architect and client together in the same space to find the best solutions. The design makes the most of the space and the budget. White walls, desks, and custom-made cabinetry make the space feel substantially larger than its 120 square metres.
Furniture provides splashes of colour, establishing a future revamp as an affordable way to update the spaceโs look in the coming years. Itโs the perfect balance between workspaces per square metre and a calm, productive, energising environment.
