Brief
We were asked by Fletcher Living to help create a range of desirable, connected urban neighbourhoods as part of its new development in Christchurch. The brief included designing houses and building a community full of energy and spirit, showcasing diverse urban regeneration.

Community front and centre at One Central
One Central is an urban scheme comprising 58 homes and is the epitome of sophisticated city living. Nestled in Canterbury’s new East Frame district, this development offers a mix of one to three-bedroom terraced houses, catering to buyers with varying budgets. Developed through a joint venture between Fletcher Living and Ōtākaro, our One Central masterplan encompasses 15 superlots and three distinct precincts within a larger 14-hectare, 900-home project.

To ensure a seamless visual experience, we discreetly tucked away servicing and car parking facilities from public view, allowing the beauty of the surroundings to take centre stage. As you enter the interior spaces, pedestrian lanes guide you towards the heart of the community, which includes trees, benches, and inviting bump spaces. These spaces are meeting points where conversations flow and connections between community members are fostered — an integral part of urban design.

One Central caters to a variety of lifestyles and life-stages with homes that have a strong connection to the city, offering a community that balances the ability to live, work and play.
Notably, One Central has quickly gained popularity and become the fastest-selling development in the East Frame area. This achievement highlights the economic strength that excellent design holds, even at an affordable price point within the inner city.
