Brief
Bring stage one of the masterplan for a 26-hectare development that combines commercial space, a range of house types and community facilities to life through a considered landscaping strategy.
Sympathetic landscape design creates an inclusive community
We have been working with Taupō District Council for over five years on the masterplanning for East Urban Lands (EUL), a remnant site adjacent to the State Highway One bypass. The area is being developed to accommodate the predicted population growth of the town.
We were tasked with developing a new 4,400sqm commercial hub south of the township in the Kokomea Park subdivision within the Three Mile Bay/Wharewaka area. Our scope included commercial core landscape, carpark amenity landscaping, pedestrian connections, retail, and commercial street frontage treatment. With an overarching plan to create a sustainable community, our landscape architectural designs needed to be sympathetic with the beautiful landscape and the natural materials being used for the surrounding buildings.
We worked with the client’s consultant team to achieve practical, yet aesthetic design solutions within a high-use commercial environment. Our set of landscape plans included hardscape, softscape, play spaces, retaining walls, fencing and barriers, street furniture and wayfinding, all to Taupō District Council standards. This stage of the project has now been completed and our work continues as we help to create new communities across this developing site.
