Brief
Transform a dilapidated heritage building into five luxury apartments, addressing widespread structural, weathertightness, thermal, and acoustic concerns.
Putting the heat back in the Firehouse
As part of our long-running relationship with the Warner Bros. home renovation reality show The Block, we undertook the complex remediation and interior fitout of this 1920s Kingsland fire station. For this minor capital works project, our primary goal was to achieve compliance and improve performance for the client — and then to add value and enhance aesthetics.
Working closely with structural and geotechnical engineers in BIM, we devised cost-effective design solutions to bring the building up to code and to eliminate the earthquake and fire risks that had arisen from decades of neglect.
Upgrades to the façade and an upward expansion to make room for a penthouse apartment added significant value to the building and gave the owners a sought-after market commodity.
