A large and undeveloped drainage reserve in the suburb of Mount Roskill, Freeland Reserve forms an important link between two avenues on its south and west edges
Kāinga Ora’s coordinated building program in the neighbourhood meant the stormwater treatment system in the reserve required an upgrade to meet increased demand.
Sited as it is, the upgrade offered the opportunity to create a new community space with landscaping, the construction of footbridges and viewing platforms and paved walkways, providing new links between the nearby streets.
Freeland Reserve now delivers the dual benefits of improved water quality and decreased risk of flooding while providing a valuable piece of suburban parkland.
