DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka

Brief
We were approached by our client Wildfire Commercial Kitchens & Bars to 3D capture a new kitchen that the company had recently installed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka. The data would be used to showcase how 3D site capture can be used to help clients when retrofitting or installing new kitchens.

3D site capture a recipe for kitchen design success
Located 25 minutes south of Auckland is the newly opened DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka. The hotel has 122 rooms and suites and a state-of-the-art restaurant, TheEthereal | Artisan Kitchen.
Wildfire designed and installed the kitchen and has been responsible for consulting, designing, supplying, project-managing, and commissioning many of New Zealand’s largest and most prominent commercial food service projects. They asked us to 3D capture the kitchen using our LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology scanner. The technology utilises laser emissions to measure distances and create detailed 3D representations of objects and environments. LiDAR scanners emit laser pulses and measure the time taken for the pulse to return, enabling the creation of precise and comprehensive 3D point cloud data.

Traditional methods of capturing site data for design purposes often involve manual measurements and 2D drawings โ€“ these can be time-consuming, error-prone, and may lack accuracy โ€“ the data collected by the scanner includes precise measurements, spatial relationships, and detailed 3D representations of all objects, structures, and fixtures in the kitchen. This accuracy significantly reduces the chances of errors, miscalculations, and design inconsistencies. It also provides opportunities to undertake test fit-outs and produce accurate floor plans while minimising site visits.
