Create a masterplan within the existing Bryndwr neighbourhood, comprising a versatile range of one- to five-bedroom homes, a mix of standard home designs, and specialist typologies.
Space, place, and community in Christchurch
Our role was to create a masterplan for 8,124sqm of land across Clyde Road, Aorangi Road, and Bevin Place, located in Bryndwr, Christchurch, Canterbury. The projectโs vision was to provide high quality living for residents in a development well connected to, and stitched into the existing local community. Already established, the area provides a good range of amenities and services with a neighbourhood centre adjacent to the site and several desirable schools in close proximity.
The large site provided an opportunity to construct a range of homes, with generous private outdoor spaces and shared park spaces at the centre. The development includes a number of family homes with gardens, alongside dwellings designed to be accessible. The site considers a balance to the design, to have a sense of community within the development, and continuity with the existing urban grain and the patterns of the city. Comprising a versatile range of one- to five-bedroom homes (a mix of the standard home designs Context crafted alongside Kฤinga Ora), stage one of this project was completed in June 2023. Residents are already enjoying the community and unique character areas that relate to the existing neighbourhoods, strengthening their overall sense of place.
