Architecture, Sustainability services, Passive House
Located in Auckland, this family home was designed to meet Passive House standards, delivering exceptional thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Context worked closely with the homeowners, originally from central and eastern Europe, to create a future-proofed residence that far exceeds typical New Zealand building code performance.
The two-storey design maximises efficiency, with energy modelling guiding every decision. Automated external shutters, generous overhangs, and strategic orientation ensure the home remains warm in winter and cool in summer, with minimal reliance on mechanical heating or cooling.
Rooftop solar panels support energy generation, with capacity to expand for seasonal demands. A flexible studio space, currently a playroom, is designed to evolve into a granny flat, reflecting the family’s long-term vision. Every room was purposefully planned, making this a deeply personal and enduring home.
