Westpac, Hastings

Brief
When Westpac asked us to help remodel the interior of an art deco building in Hastings, we couldn’t wait to reimagine the property to provide a full suite of modern banking facilities.

Westpac’s heritage building with a modern twist
Located in the central business district, the stunning heritage property is one of the best known and most historically important buildings in Hastings. It has played an important role in the commercial life of the city, with a predominance of uses from law and finance to commerce.

The property comprises a 2,730 sqm, two-level building on a 2,505 sqm site with 44 car parks. It is an excellent example of the ‘stripped classical’ style that was often used for government buildings at the time.

Westpac wanted to take the opportunity to move beyond traditional banking and turn the environment into a hub for local businesses. Home to Westpac’s banking specialists across consumer, business and agri-banking, the branch offers iPads and WiFi accessibility for customers who want to use a device to do their banking on site.

Westpac NZ General Manager of Consumer Banking, Gina Dellabarca, said, “It’s a beautiful art deco building which we’ve fitted out with a range of banking facilities for the community. Our intention is that customers will be able to bank how they want, when they want.”
