Can we help?
Raglan Bach
Raglan Bach
Single Residential
Architecture, Sustainability
In 1985 an Auckland family bought an acre of land in Raglan and holidayed on the site for many years, before building a bach in 1990 using recycled materials.
Two and half decades on, the well-loved holiday home was in need of a significant upgrade and Context was commissioned to help. With it’s many cherished memories and some sound design features that had stood the test of time, it was decided to retain and renovate the existing bach.
Nestled unobtrusively in the landscape, a new wing to the east creates a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom property with interior spaces opening toward the 270-degree views of the coast. Sunlight and the variable climate are managed with deep verandahs forming outdoor “rooms”, extending the living spaces into the garden for much of the year.
